WHAT IS CHURCH MEMBERSHIP?       Ephesians 3:10 tells us that the church exists to make the manifold wisdom of God known. This has more to do with the fullness of living life as part of a church family than simply attending a church service. Christ's church is a people, a people awakened by grace who are being continually reformed by the gospel and empowered by the Spirit to live out the life of the resurrected Christ to the glory of God.      1 Corinthians 12-14 expounds wonderfully on the reality that followers of Jesus are members of a body, that body being the local church. As a follower of Jesus you were meant to belong to this great work, this community of faith, responding together with your brothers and sisters to the great love of God shown to you in Christ.     Being a part of a biblical church community is significantly undervalued in our culture today and yet people are longing to belong to something. We see this longing everywhere we look. We believe this longing points us to the deeper truth that we were created in the image of a Triune God and made to flourish in community with him and his family. Stonehouse Church believes in church membership, in individual lives being connected to the local church through a two-sided commitment, a covenant. What this means is that the leaders of the church covenant with Jesus, the church, and one another to carry out certain responsibilities and to live in a manner consistent with what is laid out for them in the Scriptures. Likewise, the members of the church covenant with Jesus, the leaders, and one another to live as the Bible calls them to live and to give of their time, talents, and treasure in service to Jesus and his church and God’s greater mission in the world.     Church Membership is far more than getting names on a list. It's a community choosing to walk through all of life intentionally together with a new family created by the Word of God and the redemption of Christ. This church family are those who will love you, serve you and help you walk in the truth of Jesus as together we pursue our greatest good in Christ to his unending glory. Becoming a member of the church is a decision to join a family on a mission.
